In the Spring, IEEE will host their annual Chili Cook Off. This is a huge event for the college of engineering as Student Organizations, Professionals, and Alumni are pitted against each other to see who has the best chili. Amongst the Chili Cook Off, IEEE plans to have other events such as Buffalo Wild Wing Night, Mars Rover Competition, and have members attend the IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference.
The Mars Rover Competition is an event that IEEE-UH will be assisting with through the UH STEM Center. This event invites dozens of local schools to the UH campus to allow students to participate in a design competition. Interested schools are given a curriculum to follow during the Fall semester which culminates in students crafting their own Mars Rover out of household materials. The program is designed to introduce students to the scientific method in a way outside of science fair projects. IEEE-UH will be volunteering as tour guides and judges for the event, and our IEEE-UH Robotics team will be responsible to students at a tour stop they will be leading.
Every April, IEEE-UH sponsors students and officers to attend the IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference. This year, the conference will be held in Denver, CO from April 1-2, 2017. We plan to have student competing in all the categories including circuit design, ethics, and the robotics competition.
